Penzance Town and Harbour RegenerationOpportunities for securing the sustainable development of Penzance Harbour and Town are to be assisted further as a result of a partnership between Penwith District, Penzance Town and Cornwall County Councils. The three Councils have jointly funded a three year contract to employ a Development Manager to oversee some of the developments contained in the W S Atkin Study. The Steering Group for the project, comprising Penwith District Council, Penzance Town Council, South West Regional Development Agency, Penzance Dry Dock Company, Penzance Hotel and Guest Rouse Association, Penzance Chamber of commerce, Penzance Area Forum and the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company elected Mike Waters, Chairman of Penzance Chamber of Commerce, as Chairman of the Steering Group at their last meeting. Mike said: "Objective One funding is the last major opportunity that Penzance will ever have to ensure Its regeneration, future growth and prosperity by providing year-round employment opportunities to those who are either seeking work, facing an uncertain future due to the decline of fishing and farming, or whose work is seasonal." "We cannot afford to miss this opportunity and I
applaud the three Councils for their foresight in appointing a full-time
Development Manager for the next three years. The Steering Group was
formed 2 years ago from a series of meetings organised by Jackie Aitken,
former Mayor of Penzance, and we will continue to work tirelessly with
the Development Manager to ensure that Penzance's future is secured"

celebrate this milestone and will be canvassing for ideas at our next
meeting. Popular Wharfside CrecheChildren, especially between 2 and 5 years old, are wonderfully creative and adventurous individuals who always need constant stimulation and supervision. This they can get while attending the Creche on the second floor of the Wharfside Shopping Centre, where they will be in the safe hands of fully qualified and experienced Nursery Nurses whilst enjoying the happy, safe and beautifully designed playroom. Not only will your children thoroughly enjoy this positive experience but you will have the benefit of being able to have a coffee In piece and quiet; a wander around the shops without little hands touching things; go to the doctors, dentists or hairdressers or just treat youself to an hour or more of piece and quiet. Several parents have commented that placing their children in the Creche occasionally was an extremely useful way of getting them used to being away from their mum or dad and helped their subsequent settling into Nurseries and Infant Schools enormously. You can get to the Creche by going up in the lift, or via the stairs, from opposite Littlewoods in the mall. They are open from l0am to 4pm every day except Sunday and charge from 60p for 15 minutes up to £2.50 for an hour for a maximum of 4 hours, bookings can be taken but are not always necessary. Loyalty cards are available which result in free sessions and there is also a scheme whereby free sessions are available if you recommend a friend who subsequently uses the Creche, full details of which are available from Creche staff. For further information, and to make bookings, please
phone the Creche Manager, Sue Waters NNEB, on Penzance 351792, or pop
in for a look anytime Join the ChamberThe Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of local business with the County, District and Town Councils, Government agencies and public bodies. It actively campaigns on issues affecting the business community as well as issues affecting the community as a whole. This requires finances and direct involvement by committed people, and deserves the support of every business in the region. Our Chairman is coordinator of the West Cornwall Group of Chambers and the Cornwall Business Partnership. He is a member of the Priority Management Group 3, which approves Objective One funding in the area of Learning and Skills development. He is also a member of the Penzance Regeneration Steering Group that has worked on the submission of an Objective One bid to greatly enhance the prosperity of the town and its inhabitants. Other members represent the Chamber on such bodies as the Police Consultative Committee and Tourism Committee. All businesses have problems from time to time, and it has been proved that representation from a Chamber Officer on behalf of the member concerned can greatly enhance the prospect of a satisfactory conclusion. With major issues, such as the Penzance Regeneration Project, West Cornwall Hospital, Objective One and so on needing input from the business community there has never been a better reason for all businesses to become Chamber members - The greater our membership, the bigger our voice.
