I recently revisited my childhood home at Alverton House where my Mother was cook for Borlase and Hoiuskeeper for Mr and mrs weatherby. Mr Weatherby was hooked on the manor dated about 900. I have a theory that Alverton Manor was sacked by the Spanish Armada in 1585? Is there any record of this or of who occupied it and what happened in the Civil War? There is evedence of tin streaming on the site and I wonder if the Manor was built in the settling pool for this? These are totaly uneducated speculations, but I was sent underground as a child to trace the direction of a little tunnel which led to the discovery of the tin streaming walls under the front lawn.
The current owner does not seem to have any knowledge on this matter although I am sure he would be interested.

We holidayed in your lovely town in August this year, 2005. We felt welcomed from the very first person we spoke to until the last. What a magnificent place on this earth. We will be back.

I have just discovered that I am directly descended from the Rev. Joseph Hallett Batten, of Penzance, Principal of the East India College, Haileybury, who died in 1837. His daughter Charlotte married a Macdonell, of the Madras Army, in India in 1839. I would love to hear from any Batten kin who are interested in genealogy, and look forward to continuing my research in Penzance.

Unable to find details of an ancestor Elzabeth Milne Hannay ROSS known as Leila b 9 Aug 1867 and died at 39 Bayview, Penzance 6 March 1937.What took her to Penzance so far from home?
Her father was the factor for the Drummond Home family at Abercairney near Crieff in Perthshire. His first wife died young and the family had him exhumed from his second wife's grave to lie behside their mother. Was this why she left home ? Any information gratefully received.Where was 39 Bayview for example.Enjoyed the site - makes me plan to visit in the future.

The German Lightvessel Elbe 1 visited Penzance for the Trafalgar Celebrations. Has anyone seen any coverage about this in the local papers? And if so, could I beg a copy? Would very much appreciate that! There does not seem to be much about this visit online, so HELP PLEASE

I am searching for relatives in the Cornwall region with the surname Trehar. Most seem to be deceased according to one UK website. Anyone with information please email!

me and a friend of mine visited penzance in june this year and we really enjoyed the special flair of penzance with its beautiful seaside and tropical vegetation, especially in the morrab gardens. further more we had a little b&b hotel with a very familiar atmosphere and lovely hosts. so from now on we always recommend penzance as a holiday resort, if people ask us about england and where to spend holidays. we also hope to come back very soon for another stay in cornwall.
greetings from germany,

A lot of Years ago, I knew Sally Andrews from Henleaze Gardens, she came with a group to Cuxhaven (our twin-city), later she went to Bristol. I met her again there. But we lost contact, if somebody knows where she is now, please let me know. What she doesn't know is: I move from Cuxhaven to Italy. My email-adress you find below.

Thank You

When i first visited Cornwall in 1999 to see the eclipse, it was love at first sight. I decided to stay for a couple of years. I lived in a cottage in Pendeen with a superb view over the Atlantic. I was deeply impressed by its natural beauty, the colours, The rugged coast, beautiful sites and sounds. Many thanks to my former collegues on the buses. Although i wrecked many buses, I really had a good time. Some day i will return.

I know that this may sound strange, living as we do in the height of security due to terrorism, but .... are there any left luggage facilities in Penzance? If I visit Penzance, I will be coming by public transport & I might come by night bus or train & might need somewhere to leave my luggage, especially if I decide to go self catering!!!
Many thanks.
