Rugby has been played in Penwith since 1870 when a team
of public school boys and university undergraduates paved the way for
the formation of the two clubs that amalgamated in 1945 to form the
now ‘infamous’ Penzance & Newlyn Rugby Club - the ‘Pirates’. There
are many other local clubs which welcome participation at all levels
of ability.
