Penzance is located in the administrative District of Penwith, which encompasses the whole of the Lands End Peninsula within the County of Cornwall. The town is located within the National Parliamentary constituency of St Ives and the European Parliamentary constituency for the South West Region of England.

Provision of local services to the community is the responsibility of three Local Authority Councils. These Councils each have defined responsibilites for specific services and are made up of elected Councillors and appointed officers serving their respective localities.
